  President's Lecture

Dr. James Johnson, Jr., selected by Fast Company magazine as one of the "17 … brightest thinkers and doers in the new world of work," will be the first speaker in Guilford Technical Community College’s President’s Lecture Series.  Johnson will speak in Koury Auditorium on GTCC’s Jamestown campus at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20.  His topic, “Jobs on the Move:  Implications for Higher Education and Workforce Development” is certainly timely.

Prior to the lecture and panel discussion, there will be a reception beginning at 5:45pm in the Koury Hospitality Center.  The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Johnson is an author, Distinguished Professor of Entrepreneurship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Director of the Urban Investment Strategies Center at the Frank Hawkins Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise.  Johnson’s current research and consulting activities focus on the workforce and workplace implications of post-1990 demographic changes in the U.S. His research on these and related topics has been widely cited in a number of national media outlets, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Newsweek, and Time Magazine.  He has also appeared on a number of national television shows, including The Today Show, CNN Headline News, the CBS Evening News, and the ABC Nightly News.

Panel participants include Don Cameron, President, GTCC; Lillian Plummer, Director, Greensboro/High Point/Guilford County Workforce Development Board; Stanley Battle, Chancellor, North Carolina A & T State University; and President and CEO, Don Kirkman, Piedmont Triad Partnership Board.  Keith Debbage of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro will act as moderator.

In recognition of our 50th anniversary celebration, the GTCC President's Lecture Series was created to give both campus and community members the opportunity to hear and engage in discussions with world-class speakers and thinkers.
